Kaltura Capture

- Instant upload: Videos are immediately uploaded to the Kaltura platform upon completion of the recording.

Once you have installed Kaltura Capture, you can record new media in two ways:
- Launch Kaltura Capture from your list of programs. Alternately, you may have created a desktop shortcut when you installed the software. You can also launch Kaltura Capture with the shortcut.
- Launch Kaltura Capture when logged in to MediaSpace or Blackboard. When logged in to MediaSpace, click "Add New" in the upper right portion of the screen. Then select "Kaltura Capture." In Blackboard, click Create from the top right when you are on the Kaltura videos - My Media page, then select Capture
The steps below apply to either method of recording.
Record Using Kaltura Capture
To record media on your desktop, simply launch Kaltura Capture Desktop Recorder from your list of programs. Alternately, you may have created a desktop shortcut when you installed the software. You can also launch Kaltura Capture with the shortcut.
- Choose your recording configuration (screen, webcam, audio, etc.).

- In screen recording mode, if you selected "Select Area", you will need to select the area size and position the area shape over the part of your screen you wish to record.
- Once you begin recording, a countdown will launch and a control widget will appear.

- When you are done recording, click the square stop icon. Confirm if you want to end the recording. A preview of your video will open. Here you can review your video and make edits to the title, description, and tags.
- Edit title and other information as necessary.
- Complete your recording in one of the following ways:
- Click Delete if you want to erase the recording permanently. It cannot be restored if you click Delete.
- Recommended: Click Save & Upload to immediately send video to server. The media will be available in your Kaltura Media on Blackboard
- Click Save to save a copy of the video on your computer without uploading. You can use the Go to Library link in Kaltura Capture to preview, delete, or upload this media to the server at any time.

Control Widget Functions
The Kaltura Capture recorder's control widget has several functions:
- Record button
- Toggle recording inputs on or off
- Select different recording inputs
- Manage recording settings and existing media in your library

Multiple Recording Inputs
Kaltura Capture allows multiple video inputs for a recording. So you can select both your computer screen and a webcam.
Tools During Recording
Once a recording has started, more features appear on the control widget.
- Stop button appears and record button serves to pause and restart recording.
- Cancel button appears. This button looks like the letter X and lets you cancel a recording immediately.
- Draw button appears. Click the pencil icon to open the draw tool panel. You can draw live on a screen recording.
Recommended Settings for Kaltura Capture
To get the most out of Kaltura Capture, here are some recommended settings. You can access the settings by launching Kaltura Capture on your computer and clicking Manage on the recorder.
Then click the gear icon to access settings.
Recording Quality
For Camera and Screen recording quality, always use the highest quality available.
Record System Audio
Select this option only if you want sounds made by your computer to be included in the recording.
Recording Name Prefix
Edit this test to customize the text that appears at the start of each of your video titles. When you are finished making changes to settings, be sure to click Save to retain your new settings.
Express Capture allows you to record content directly from your browser -- without needing any extra software. Express capture is great when you want to make a quick, impromptu video -- like a quick announcement, a reply in a discussion, or video feedback on student work.
Launch Express Capture web-based recorder
- You can access Express Capture from MyMedia or from within a content editor, such as when you are posting in a discussion. Click the specific methods listed below to open an image illustrating where to launch Express Capture.
- From any of the locations listed above, select Express Capture from the + Add New drop-down menu.
- The Record Media page is displayed. From here, you can set Camera or Audio Settings. The default settings are your personal computer's webcam and audio device.
Confirm Settings
Select the camera to use
- Click on the arrow to select the source camera (if you have multiple cameras) or audio device (if you have multiple audio devices) and to turn the camera/audio/screen capture on/off.
For KAF applications, the screen is displayed with Back option.
- Click on the arrow next to the camera to display the available cameras and the on/off toggle for the camera.
- Select the camera type.

- Click on the arrow next to the screen option and the on/off toggle for the screen share.
Note: Screen Capture may be enabled only when the Camera and Audio are enabled.
- Toggle the camera off if you want to create an audio only recording.
The following screen is displayed indicating that you are recording Audio only. Click the red button to start recording.

- The audio indicator is displayed while you are recording audio only.

- Toggle the audio off if you want to create a visual-only recording.
Both the camera and audio may not be turned off at the same time.
Make a Recording
- Click the Record button to begin your recording. A three second countdown window is displayed.

- A timer is displayed next to the Pause, Stop and Cancel buttons.

- Click the Stop button to end your recording. The following window is displayed. In the case of multi-stream video (if you are recording both the camera and sharing your screen), the streams are presented one above the other on the preview page and have the same controllers.

- Choose Record Again to make a new recording
- “Record Again” permanently discards and deletes the current recording.
- You will be reverted to the Record button where you can retake the recording,
- Slect Download a Copy to save a copy of the video to your device
- Select Use This when you are satisfied with your recording (after as many retakes as needed), to upload to Kaltura. The Upload window is displayed, as shown below. You can perform the following steps there.
- Edit the name of the video (1 in picture) to match the title of your discussion post
- Click Save (2 in picture) to save changes (such as the new video name)
- Click Go To Media (3 in picture)to visit this specific video's preview page
- click Go To My Media (4 in picture) to visit a list of all your videos on the Kaltura server
