End of Term Procedures
Follow these steps to prepare your online course for the end of term.
Grade Center Check
Zero Out Non-Participants
Check to be sure every student has a score for every column, even if that means entering zeros. This is a good practice throughout the term, but now it's especially important. Your course grades may not calculate correctly if you skip this step.
- Start in the Full Grade Center scroll to the last scored column-all the way to the right.
- Click on the column name to toggle sort until you see all empty fields at the top.
- Click inside the top empty cell / field. You will see your cursor flashing.
- Use numeric keypad and hit 0 Enter. Repeat until the empty fields in that column are all filled. If students haven't been paying attention to their final totals, they definitely will now.
- Move to the next column on the left and repeat.
- If you make a mistake, hover over cell Click Action Link/Select "View Grade Details"/History Tab (to confirm error). Then select Attempts Tab/Clear grade.
NOTE: It's a good time to email students of concern. Select student check boxes and use the Grade Center email feature.
Schema Display
Check MHCC Letter Grade Schema
Having letter grades appear in your Grade Center Total Column makes grade entry in CX accurate and painless. Set up your schema in a few easy steps.
- Go to Manage/Grading Schemas
- Select MHCC Letter action link
- Under Schema mapping, edit percentages and letter grades 90-100=A, 80-89=B etc.
- Submit.
Schemas have many uses. Contact an instructional designer if you are interested in learning more.
Display Schema in Totals Column
Check Total Column
While you're editing the Total Column display, it's good to confirm your columns are accurate. Look over the columns that you've selected to calculate your students final grades. Need help dealing with Grade Center Column calculations? Go to Clean up your Blackboard Grade Center or select the Contact OL link at the bottom of the page.
Next steps
- Instructors of all online and hybrid classes are required to download their Blackboard grade center at the end of the term. Visit the link at the top of this page for more information.
- All instructors must enter grades using CX Web. Visit the link at the top of this page for more information.
Download Blackboard Grade Center
It's a good idea to periodically download your grade center over the term, but you are required to download once final scores are entered in Blackboard. When you enter your grades in CX, take a moment to download your grade center to your computer. NOTE: Students are removed from Blackboard courses Monday after finals week. Be sure you download your Grade Center before then.
Instructions for Downloading Grade Center
- In the Full Grade Center, click on Work Offline (upper right corner)
- Select Download
- Under Data, select Full Grade Center
- Under Options, select Comma Delimiter and Yes to include Hidden Information
- You will choose to save the file or open in Excel. If you open the file, remember to complete the process and save it
