Where to Grade in Blackboard

Once your students have submitted assignments, completed tests, or participated in discussions, you will need to grade their work. Here are the places you can access the grading screen for student work.

Grade using the Needs Grading link

  • You can click the name of any item in the Needs Grading list
  • You can use Filter parameters to narrow down the list by assignment, student, date, etc.

Grade using a Smart View or Full Grade Center

The Full Grade Center shows all grading columns and all students, making the page look like a spreadsheet. A smart view behaves the same, except it shows only grade columns that belong to a designated category, such as Assignments or Tests.

Grade All Attempts for a Grade Column

  • Click the action link at the top of the column you wish to grade, then click Grade Attempts
To grade a column from Grade Center

    select Grade Attempts

Grade an Attempt by a Single Student

  • If you only need to grade a single student, you can click the action link within a single grading cell, then click the Attempt you wish to grade
To grade a specific user's attempt

Exception: Discussions

You can begin grading from the Grade Center grade column, the Needs Grading view, or even the Discussion forum itself.

Start Grading from Discussion Board page

On the Discussion Board screen (where all of your discussion forums are listed), hover over the name of the discussion forum you want to grade, then click the action link that appears. Select Grade.

Grade discussions from discussion board

Start Grading from Discussion Forum main page
