How to Use the Blackboard Test Generator

MHCC now has its own Blackboard Test Generator. The test generator is especially useful for instructors who have already typed many test questions. The test generator can convert typed questions to a file that can be imported into Blackboard as a question Pool or Test.

Question Types

The test generator can only convert 6 question types:

  1. multiple choice
  2. multiple answer
  3. true or false
  4. essay question
  5. fill in the blank
  6. matching

Moreover, the generator only accepts questions and answers. It cannot handle extra information such as question feedback, difficulty level, etc.

Instructions

The key to a successful experience with the test generator is reading and following the instructions. This is probably the clearest example of how computers work on a "garbage in, garbage out" model. Failure to read and follow the instructions may result in frustration. After logging in to the test generator, open the instructions using the info icon shown below.

Formatting is Everything

Part of the instructions for the test generator is a set of formatting requirements. You will need to format your questions and answers exactly as shown, or the process will either not work or not work as expected. After opening the test generator instructions (as shown above), click the tab for question formatting requirements.
